Stairs4RTroops at Gillette on October 25: 5,184 Steps for Injured Veterans

On Sunday, October 25, climbers, walkers, families and firefighters will take on the lower bowl of Gillette Stadium for the 12th annual Stairs4RTroops. Every net dollar goes to building homes for severely injured veterans.
Westwood IV Therapy will be there with nurse-led IV drips and vitamin injections for climbers, spectators and volunteers. Here is the story behind the climb and how to plan your visit and earn a free service!
The Climb
The course covers roughly 36 sections of the lower bowl, about 5,184 steps in all. Climbers go at their own pace, walking or running, in waves that start every 15 to 30 minutes.
When: Sunday, Oct. 25. Registration opens at 8 AM, opening ceremony at 9:45 AM, first wave at 10 AM.
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough.
Cost: $40 for adults, $15 for climbers 17 and under.
Firefighter wave: A special wave for firefighters, open to everyone.
Extras: Music, water stations on the course and a keynote speaker. The first 1,000 registrants receive a t-shirt.
What started as a group of Boston-area volunteers running the steps at Harvard's stadium has grown into a Gillette tradition. For the second year in a row, the Bob Woodruff Foundation is the title sponsor.
Where the Money Goes
All net proceeds benefit Homes For Our Troops, a nonprofit headquartered right down the road in Taunton. HFOT builds and donates specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 veterans, mortgage-free, wherever the veteran chooses to live.
Homes For Our Troops, by the numbers 420+ specially adapted homes built since 2004 40+ major adaptations in every home, from roll-in showers to wider doorways Nearly 90 cents of every dollar spent goes to programs for veterans 100+ veterans currently in the application process About 75% of HFOT's operating budget comes from individuals, foundations and community fundraisers |
That last number is the reason events like this one matter. Community fundraisers are a big part of how these homes get built.
This Year's Spotlight: LCDR John Pucillo
In 2006, Navy Lieutenant John Pucillo was on his first combat deployment in Iraq when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. He lost his left leg above the knee and sustained a traumatic brain injury.
He went on to serve 12 more years before retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in 2018. Today he is a father of two and manages an amputee soccer team. His current split-level house is hard to navigate in a wheelchair.
HFOT is building John a specially adapted home in Hudson, Massachusetts, close to his family. Read John's story.
Why We Show Up
Our nurses come from emergency and critical care backgrounds, and many have spent their careers working alongside veterans and first responders. Westwood IV Therapy is a local, women-led team, and Foxborough is part of our community. We already spend the first Tuesday of every month at Rev'd Fitness at Patriot’s Place in Foxborough. When our neighbors give their morning, their legs and their lungs to something this meaningful, being there to support them is the easy part.
