IV Hydration at the Run for the Fallen 5K: What to Expect on September 12 in Dedham, MA

On Saturday, September 12, runners, walkers, ruckers, families, volunteers and supporters will gather at Barnes Memorial Park in Dedham for the annual Massachusetts Run for the Fallen 5K. Westwood IV Therapy will be there from 9 AM to 1 PM with a nurse-led hydration and vitamin shot station, and we would be glad to see you there!

About the Massachusetts Run for the Fallen

The Massachusetts Run for the Fallen is hosted by the Military Friends Foundation and honors Massachusetts service members who gave their lives in the line of duty since 9/11. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks and the organizers have expanded the event to honor fallen Massachusetts, police, fire and EMS personnel lost since that day.

According to the organizers, 100% of donations stay in Massachusetts to fund grants for the families of fallen heroes. The morning includes a Fallen Hero Name Reading Ceremony at 9:30 AM, a timed 5K at 11 AM  and post-race BBQ with family activities until 1 PM. Families of the fallen can email the organizers for a free registration code.

Why Our Team Shows Up for Events Like This

Many of the nurses on the Westwood IV Therapy team came to us from emergency and critical care settings. That means years of working shoulder to shoulder with police officers, firefighters, and EMS crews on the hardest days of other people’s lives. When an event honors those same people and the families who carry on without them, our team wants to be in the field with them, not watching from a distance.

What We Are Offering

From 9 AM to 1 PM, our nurses will provide IV drips and/or vitamin shots at discounted event pricing. Our booth is open to everyone on the field: runners, supporters, volunteers, and families.

Why We Ask You to Pre-Register

Pre-registering does two things for you.

  1. It holds your time. Pick the window you want and skip the line when you arrive. Not sure when you will be free? Choose the Walk-In option when you select your service time.

  2. It holds your service. We bring a set inventory to every event, and the most requested options go first.

After you submit your pre-registration, you will receive a medical intake form by email. Complete it before you arrive and keep check-in short! You can prepay online or pay at check-in. Onsite we accept payment via Square and Venmo.

Walk-ups are welcome, in order of arrival, and as space allows.

What to Expect at the Booth

  • Check in with our event team. Pre-registered? You will move straight to the RN team.

  • Meet your nurse for a brief intake to confirm we have what we need.

  • Take a seat. IV drips are a seated service, so bring your phone, bring a friend, or just take the break.

    • How Long It Takes

      • - IV drips: about 30 to 45 minutes, seated

      • - Vitamin shots: typically under 15 minutes, including intake

  • Rejoin your group when you are done. Pre-registered vitamin shots typically run about 15 minutes from check-in to finish.
