Iron Infusions at Westwood IV Therapy
Medically supervised, at home.
Feeling exhausted, run down, or not quite like yourself?
Sometimes, feeling tired goes beyond needing a good night's sleep. Iron plays an essential role in carrying oxygen throughout your body, supporting energy production, and helping you feel and function at your best. When your iron stores become depleted, you may notice persistent fatigue, brain fog, headaches, or difficulty keeping up with your usual activities.
You can have iron deficiency even if you're not anemic. Iron stores can become low before your hemoglobin drops, meaning symptoms may develop even when a routine blood count appears normal.
At Westwood IV Therapy, we offer medically supervised, in-home iron infusions with personalized care from experienced infusion nurses. Our nurse practitioner reviews your labs, symptoms, and medical history to determine whether IV iron is the right treatment for you.
Who May Benefit from Iron Infusions?
Iron deficiency can affect anyone, from busy parents and active adults to athletes and individuals managing chronic medical conditions.
Common symptoms of iron deficiency may include:
-
Persistent fatigue or low energy
-
Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
-
Dizziness or lightheadedness
-
Shortness of breath, especially with activity
-
Frequent headaches
-
Hair thinning or hair loss
-
Reduced endurance or difficulty keeping up with workouts
-
Restless legs, particularly at night
Iron infusions may be appropriate for individuals who:
-
Have confirmed iron deficiency, with or without anemia
-
Experience significant side effects from oral iron supplements
-
Have difficulty absorbing iron due to gastrointestinal conditions or prior surgery
-
Have not responded adequately to oral iron supplements
-
Need more timely iron replacement for medical reasons
We commonly work with individuals experiencing iron deficiency related to heavy menstrual bleeding, pregnancy or postpartum recovery, gastrointestinal conditions, and increased physical demands from sports or endurance training.
Not everyone with low iron needs an infusion. Symptoms such as fatigue and brain fog can have many causes. Our nurse practitioner carefully reviews your lab results, medical history, and individual needs to determine whether IV iron is appropriate and recommend a treatment plan.
Our goal is simple: to help you safely address iron deficiency and get back to feeling like yourself.
Clinical Leadership
Meet Liliana (Lily) Fera, NP
Adult and geriatric nurse practitioner leading our iron infusion evaluations

Her career has centered on hematology, cardiology, and pulmonology, from ICU and stepdown units to outpatient care, teaching, and research. She joined Westwood IV Therapy to expand access to care, and she leads evaluations for our iron infusion program.

A Thoughtful, Safety-First Approach
Iron infusions are medical treatments, not standard wellness IVs. Every client is carefully screened and reviewed before treatment to ensure care is appropriate and safe.
Our goal is to create an experience where clients feel informed, supported, and cared for every step of the way.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does iron do?
Iron helps your body make hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. It also helps your muscles use oxygen and supports energy production. When iron levels are low, you may feel tired or find everyday activities more demanding.
What are symptoms of low iron?
Symptoms may include:
-
Unusual tiredness or weakness
-
Difficulty concentrating or “brain fog”
-
Shortness of breath during activity
-
Dizziness or headaches
-
Reduced stamina
-
A racing or pounding heartbeat
-
Restless legs or cravings for ice
You can have low iron without having anemia. These symptoms can also have other causes, so blood testing and a medical evaluation are needed to determine whether iron treatment is appropriate.
Who decides if I’m a candidate?
Our nurse practitioner, Liliana “Lily” Fera, reviews your symptoms, medical history and lab results to determine whether an iron infusion is medically appropriate.
Oral iron is often considered first. IV iron may be appropriate when oral iron causes intolerable side effects, does not adequately improve iron levels, or is unlikely to be absorbed well. Your evaluation also considers why your iron is low and whether further investigation is needed.
How does the process work, and how long does it take?
Complete an intake form and provide recent labs, or arrange testing through our team. You’ll then meet virtually with Lily for a medical evaluation. If treatment is approved, a registered nurse comes to your home.
Each infusion takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, followed by monitoring. Many patients receive three infusions within six weeks, but the number and timing depend on your individual treatment plan.
Do I need labs first?
Yes. Our requested labs include a CBC, vitamin B12, and an iron panel with TIBC and ferritin, ideally completed within the past month.
You can send labs from your doctor, or we can order them to be drawn at Quest for no charge or come right to your house and draw them for $125.
Who might not be a candidate?
An infusion may not be appropriate if you do not have an iron deficiency, have excess iron, or have had a serious reaction to the proposed iron medication. An active infection or other medical conditions may also affect whether or when treatment is appropriate.
Tell Lily if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or have had a previous infusion reaction. She reviews these factors before recommending treatment.
What are the possible side effects?
Possible side effects include headache, nausea, dizziness, muscle or joint aches, changes in blood pressure, and irritation at the IV site. Iron leaking outside the vein can cause skin staining.
Serious allergic reactions can occur. Patients are monitored during treatment and for at least 30 minutes afterward, and until clinically stable.
What does it cost, and do you accept insurance?
The evaluation and first infusion are $900, and each additional infusion is $500. If three infusions are prescribed, the total is $1,900, plus any applicable lab or blood-draw charges.
Our program is self-pay. We do not bill insurance directly, but we provide a superbill you can submit for possible reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and varies by plan.
