In-Home Iron Infusions for Your OB-GYN Patients

Supporting pregnancy, postpartum care and women’s health through coordinated IV iron treatment.

Westwood IV Therapy partners with OB-GYN practices to provide medically supervised, in-home iron infusions for eligible patients with documented iron deficiency or iron-deficiency anemia. Our NP-led team reviews each referral, coordinates scheduling and provides treatment updates to your office.

Experienced registered nurses deliver care in the comfort of your patient’s home, helping reduce travel and additional appointment logistics.

When to Consider a Referral

Refer patients for clinical review when IV iron may be appropriate, including:

  • Iron-deficiency anemia during pregnancy

  • Postpartum iron deficiency or anemia

  • Iron deficiency associated with heavy menstrual bleeding

  • Oral iron intolerance or inadequate response

  • Documented iron deficiency before a planned procedure

Treatment eligibility and suitability for home infusion are determined individually. Pregnancy referrals are reviewed in coordination with the treating OB-GYN.

*While treatment plans are individualized, many clients may receive a series of three Venofer infusions.

Our iron infusion program is fully self-pay, with payment collected prior to service. While we do not bill insurance directly, we provide a superbill that clients may submit to their insurance provider for possible reimbursement.

A Thoughtful, Safety-First Approach

Iron infusions are medical treatments, not standard wellness IVs. Every client is carefully screened and reviewed before treatment to ensure care is appropriate and safe.

Our goal is to create an experience where clients feel informed, supported, and cared for every step of the way.

If you think low iron may be affecting how you feel, we’re here to help guide you through the next steps. To learn more, please don't hesitate to call us at (781) 731-1170 or email hello@westwoodivtherapy.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which patients may be appropriate for referral?

Patients with documented iron deficiency or iron-deficiency anemia may be appropriate for evaluation, including postpartum patients and those who cannot tolerate or have not adequately responded to oral iron.

Our NP independently reviews each patient’s history, labs and clinical circumstances before recommending treatment. Please contact our team regarding pregnant patients so suitability for our program can be assessed individually.

How do I refer a patient, and what should I send?

Provide the patient’s contact information and relevant clinical history, along with recent labs if available. Our requested labs include a CBC, vitamin B12, and an iron panel with TIBC and ferritin, ideally completed within the past month.

Please include the reason for referral, previous oral iron treatment, relevant medical conditions and any history of infusion reactions. We can arrange labs if needed.

Who evaluates the patient and manages treatment?

Liliana “Lily” Fera, NP, completes a virtual medical evaluation and determines whether IV iron is appropriate. If approved, our registered nurses administer the prescribed treatment at the patient’s home.

The treatment plan is individualized. Referral does not automatically establish eligibility for an infusion.

What does an in-home treatment course involve?

Each infusion takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, followed by monitoring. Many patients receive three infusions within six weeks, although the number, dose and timing depend on the NP’s assessment.

Our team coordinates scheduling directly with the patient.

What safety measures are part of treatment?

Every patient undergoes a medical evaluation before treatment. Nurses monitor patients during the infusion and afterward for reactions.

For Venofer, prescribing guidance calls for observation for at least 30 minutes after administration and until clinically stable, with personnel and therapies immediately available to treat serious hypersensitivity reactions.

How will you keep our office informed?

With the patient’s consent, we send an evaluation summary and treatment documentation to your office. This helps your practice continue managing the underlying cause of iron deficiency and the patient’s ongoing care.

What does the patient pay?

The evaluation and first infusion are $900, and each additional infusion is $500. A three-infusion series totals $1,900, plus any applicable lab or blood-draw charges.

Patients pay directly. We provide a superbill for possible insurance reimbursement; coverage and reimbursement amounts vary by plan.
